I am Dr. David DeBoskey, a Professor at San Diego State University’s Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy with 35+ years of experience in accounting education, research, and corporate roles, including Wall Street C-suite positions and Big-4 auditing. I hold a Ph.D. in Accounting from Rutgers University and am a CPA (inactive), specializing in financial accounting, corporate governance, and transparency.
As an award-winning educator, I teach Financial Statement Analysis, Intermediate Accounting, and Business Consulting, emphasizing real-world applications. Since 2007, I’ve contributed to SDSU’s Sports MBA program, mentoring students on projects like post-COVID strategies, mergers, and nonprofit growth. My honors include SDSU’s Teaching Excellence Award, Cook Prize nominations, and recognition as most influential professor several times. Additionally, I’ve taught executives in China and Singapore for 12+ years in a top-ranked MBA program.
My research focuses on corporate governance, financial reporting, and transparency, with publications in journals like the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting. Key studies explore earnings management post-SOX, board diversity’s role in transparency, and corporate political disclosure’s impact on debt costs. I also publish applied research in the CPA Journal, Journal of Real Estate Taxation, and Practical Tax Strategies on topics like lease accounting rules and leveraged lease buyouts. I frequently present at conferences such as the European Financial Management Association and American Accounting Association. As a former Wall Street executive, I’ve advised organizations on financial reporting and governance and served as Vice President of Academic Relations for San Diego’s Financial Executives International, fostering academia-industry collaboration.
My insights have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, LA Times, and CNBC. At SDSU, I coordinate the BMAcc (4+1) Program and have chaired curriculum and tenure review committees since 2018. Nationally, I’ve held leadership roles with Beta Alpha Psi, including Chapter Advocate, Board Member, and Western Region President, and served as Treasurer for the American Accounting Association.
