The Houston Journal of International Law invites the submission of manuscripts. Founded in 1978, The Houston Journal of International Law is a scholarly law journal published by law students at The University of Houston Law Center. HJIL conducts three yearly publications that are edited, managed, and published wholly by its student members. All pieces published by HJIL go through a multi-stage editorial process that corrects grammar, format, structure, and citations and substantiates each citation. This rigorous process typically takes 60-90 days, including the time allocated for you to review and respond to the editors’ suggestions.

HJIL welcomes submissions related to international law that are of all lengths, as the journal maintains neither page-count requirements nor limitations. Please keep in mind, however, that most articles that the Journal publishes are approximately 10,000–25,000 words in length, including footnotes (i.e., approximately 20–60 publication-formatted pages, including footnotes). At this time, HJIL does not accept submissions from law students.

Submissions are needed for Issue 1 and Issue 2 for a publication date of Fall 2024. Once selected, the editing process for Issue 1 will commence in August 2024.
